This pop-up book gem Carnaval Animal (Animal Carnival) by Iris De Vericourt is simple and exquisite at the same time. The theme is a classic game of mis-match with 6 animals. Each animal part has a carefully refined shape that works so well when popped up. The plume of the chicken, swirly tail of a monkey, the claw, shell and tail of the lobster, bulging eyes and a fast tongue of the cameleon. Every page delightfully comes to life. The graphical look is bold and simple, the die-cut details are intricate and perfect.
We love the simplicity of the visuals and text. On top, there’s the name of each animal alongside their head, then a short description of each animal’s character for their body and tail or feet. When you mis-match you can describe an imaginary animal who’s head is like a fox, its body ‘shelters in its shell’ and has a ‘long spiral tail’. Endless fun!
It’s in French, so great for learning fun & easy French too.
